Talambuhay[baguhin | baguhin ang batayan]

Si BERNARDO BERNARDO, isang artistang Pilipino na ngayon ay nakatira na sa Amerika, ay tumanggap ng 2005 FILIPINAS MAGAZINE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD For Entertainment. Sa pagpili ng isang natatanging pangalan sa larangan ng pagganap, si Bernardo ay itinampok ng nangungunang magasing Pilipino sa buong Amerika bilang isang "actor par excellence" . Dito, binigyang diin ang papel ni Bernardo bilang isa sa napiling sampung Pilipino sa Amerika na gumawa ng pangalan sa iba't-ibang larangan, at napisil ng mga hurado bilang epektibong modelo, tagasulong at tagapag-paganap na kung bansagan ay "movers and shakers in the Filipino-American community."

Ang ilan sa dati nang tumanggap ng karangalang ito sa larangan ng sining ay ang mga artista mula sa Hollywood na sina Lou Diamond Phillips , Tia Carrere, at Rob Schneider; ang direktor sa pelikulang si Gene Cajayon at ang manunulat sa pelikulang si John Manal Castro ("The Debut"); si David Maquiling ("Too Much Sleep"), ang kaisa-isang Pilipinong Amerikano na kasapi ng ipinagpipitagang Directors Guild of America; ang Hollywood producer na si Dean Devlin ("Independence Day," "The Patriot," at "Stargate"); at ang sikat na mang-aawit na si Jocelyn Enriquez.

Isa rin si Bernardo sa limang pinarangalan ng 2006 THOMASIANS USA NOBILITY AWARD na ibinibigay sa bukod-tanging napili na nagtapos mula sa Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas, na ngayon ay naninirahan na sa Amerika, na lumikha ng mga kapuri-puring kontribusyon at nakaabot ng kahanga-hangang luklukan sa iba't-ibang larangan, sa ngalan ng serbisyo sa nakararami.

Sa kanyang iba't-ibang katangian bilang HOST, SINGER at STAND-UP COMEDIAN, patuloy si Bernardo sa pagdadala ng aliw sa mga manonood mula sa Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Juneau, Las Vegas hanggang New York. Ang malambing na bansag niya dito ay "ang aking Adobo Circuit." Matalas ang dila at matulis ang talino, halos pagulungin ni Bernardo ang mga manonood sa kanyang mga kuwentong Pinoy at pilyong kakwelahan tungkol sa mga kakaibang kaugalian at kilos ng mga migrante pagdating sa Amerika. Hinahaluan niya rin ang kanyang mga "mala-berdeng" palabas ng mga awiting patawa at kadalasan ay ginugulat niya ang mga nakikinig ng kanyang tinig na, pag seryoso ang awit, ay lubos na kaiga-igaya. Bilang ganti,hinandugan siya ng mga inampalan ng GAWAD PARANGAL 2005 BEST STAND-UP COMEDIAN AWARD in Sacramento; at ng 2004 BEST ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR AWARD sa Via Times Hall of Fame Awards sa Chicago.

Hinahangaan bilang isang seryosong ARTISTA SA ENTABLADO O TEATRO, si Bernardo at ang iba pang mga miembro ng dulang "VOYAGE" ay nalathala sa pabalat ng AMERICAN THEATRE magazine (Kasaysayang Pabalat ---“FRONTIER DREAMS, The Alaskeros Tell Their Stories,” Isyung July/Agosto 2005). Gumanap si Bernardo bilang pangunahing tauhan sa dalawag magkasunod na palabas ng Perseverance Theatre, isa sa pitong nangungunang "regional theatre" sa Amerika: bilang si Conrado, ang nakakamuhing kapatas na Alaskero sa world premiere ng musical na "THE LONG SEASON," kasama si Paolo Montalban; at bilang Ben Cantil, ang walumpung taong Merchant Marine, sa katambal nitong dula ng PT na pinamagatang "VOYAGE"—halaw sa buhay ng apat na henerasyon ng Pilipinong Migrante sa Alaska.

Naging si Prudencio din si Bernardo sa Midwest premiere ng dulang umani ng kakaibang papuri at tagumpay, ang "THE ROMANCE OF MAGNO RUBIO" sa Victory Gardens Theater ng Chicago. Nakakataba man ng puso ang umaatikabong palakpak at pangkalahatang papuri mula sa mga pahayagan, hindi maitatanggi ang karangalang natamo ng mapili ng JEFF Awards (ang Tony's ng Chicago) ang "MAGNO RUBIO" bilang isa sa limang nangunguna mula sa higit sa 140 palabas sa buong Chicago sa taong 2004. Nanomina ang "MAGNO RUBIO" bilang Best Production at Best Acting Ensemble.


Sa Maynila, si Bernardo ay tumangap ng URIAN BEST ACTOR para sa pagganap niya bilang Manay sa matagumpay na pelikulang "MANILA BY NIGHT" sa direksiyon ng hinahangaang si Ishmael Bernal. Ang nakayayanig ng diwang pelikulang ito ni Bernal, na nakilala rin bilang "CITY AFTER DARK" (sa utos ng isang natitigatig na Imelda Marcos, Pangunahing Ginang at Gobernador ng Metro Manila) ay napili ng pinagpipitagang mga Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino bilang isa sa 10 na Pinakamahusay na Pelikula sa nakalipas na 25 taon sa Sining na Pampelikula sa Pilipinas.

Si Bernardo ay may Master of Arts sa Dramatic Arts mula sa University of California, Santa Barbara; tumanggap din siya ng iba't-ibang scholarship mula Inner City Cultural Center of Los Angeles, sa American Conservatory Theater of San Francisco (Summer Workshop) at sa ipinagkakapuring London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, sa ilalim ng isang British Council grant.

Natanggap ni Bernardo ang kanyang degree na Bachelor of Literature sa Journalism mula sa Faculty of Arts and Letters ng Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas. Dito, naging Editor-in Chief siya ng University paper, The Varsitarian. Bago dito, nagtapos siya mula sa makasaysayang Manila High School sa Intramuros, alma mater ng mga kinikilala at mga nangungunang tauhan ng bansa tulad nila Carlos P. Romulo (nagwagi ng Pulitzer Prize at ipinagkakapuring Ambassador Extraordinaire ng Pilipinas) at mga dating Pangulo ng Republikang Pilipino: Jose P. Laurel, Manuel A. Roxas and Elpidio Quirino.

Sa ngayon, si Bernardo ay aktibong kasapi ng Filipino American Library, isang organisayon na nagsusulong ng kulturang Pilipino/Pilipino-Amerikano, at bago rin siyang miembro ng Historic Filipinotown Rotary ng Los Angeles na binuo upang pagsilbihan ang kalakhang comunidad ng mga Pilipino/Pilipino-Amerikano sa Katimugan ng California.
