Si Robert Michael Gates (ipinanganak Setyembre 25, 1943) ang kasalukuyang naninilbihan bilang ika-22 Kalihim ng Tanggulan ng Estados Unidos. Naupo siya sa nasabing posisyon noong Disyembre 18, 2006.[2] Bago ito, nagsilbi si Gates sa Pangunahing Ahensya ng Kaalaman sa loob ng 26 na taon at sa Pambansang Konseho ng Seguridad, sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Pangulong George H. W. Bush bilang Direktor ng Central Intelligence. Pagkatanggap sa kanya sa CIA, nagsilbi siya bilang opisyal sa Hukbong Himpapawid ng Estados Unidos.[3][4] Nang umalis siya sa CIA, naging pangulo si Gates ng Unibersidad ng Texas A&M at naging kasapi ng lupon ng direktor ng ilang korporasyon.
