Deutsch: Das vom Heraldiker Heinz Kippnick entworfene Wappen des Landkreises wurde am 8. Mai 2014 vom Kreistag beschlossen. Es zeigt vorn einen Graureiher, der für die Natur, die Artenvielfalt und den Wasserreichtum des Kreises steht. Der Stierkopf entstammt sowohl dem Wappen Mecklenburgs als auch dem des Altkreises Parchim und der Eichenzweig entstammt dem Wappen des Altkreises Ludwigslust.

English: The arms were adopted by the district council on May 8, 2014. They show a heron as sign for the nature, the diversity of species and the abundance of water as well. The left part symbolises the former districts Parchim (bull head, also Mecklenburg) and Ludwigslust (oak leave).
