The community pantries started on April 14, 2021 in the Loyola Heights barangay of Quezon City in the Philippines. It is a trend utilizing a similar concept emerged across the country, in which small carts carrying essential items were parked along sidewalks for locals to obtain any of the items freely.[1][2]

The community pantries was first established in Maginhawa Street in Quezon City by 26-year-old organizer Ana Patricia Non on April 14, 2021 and it was later spread across the country by many people who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, stocking various items and food products.[3][4]
