Kuwento ng karakter

Si Yugi Mutou ay isang mag-aaral sa unang-taon sa hayskul ng Domino, binigay sa kanya ang Millennium Puzzle at nakilala niya si Yami no Yuugi at naging matalik na magkaibigan at hinarap nila ang pagsubok upang malagpasan at magpagtibay ang kanilang pagkakaibigan kasama nila si Anzu, Honda, Miho, Otogi, Mai, at Jounouchi.

Sa Ceremonial Battle nila ni Atem, naging malungkot si Yuugi sa pangkat. Natalo niya si Ate, at bababalik na siya sa mundo ng mga patay. At sa GX naman nakasalubong niya si Judai Yuuki at binigay ang Wing Kuriboh para sa kanya.
