Singgapur? Singapura? o Singapore?[baguhin ang batayan]

What is the Filipino name for Singapore? Is it Singgapur, Singapura or simply Singapore?

All of them can be Filipino names. On regular conversation, it's Singapore. I think Singgapur is English derived while Singapura is the original name from the Malay language. There's really no general consensus here in Tagalog Wikipedia on how to name countries. --Jojit (usapan) 04:10, 17 Pebrero 2009 (UTC)
There are guidelines regarding transliteration. The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino about a year ago released a document outlining these guidelines.
The problem lies in the interpretation of these guidelines, as interpretation would definitely give more weight to certain provisions within the document than to others.
As with any set of laws, however, these guidelines are not meant to be interpreted in a vacuum, and have to adhere to either Supreme Court jurisprudence, or established, consistent practice on the part of the Komisyon.
So, I guess we'll just have to wait for either the Komisyon or the Supreme Court to explain the rules, explicitly and unambiguously. Until then, I agree with Jojit, there will never be any consensus regarding the spelling of country names. Neither should there be any until categorically sanctioned by the authorities. --Pare Mo 08:43, 17 Pebrero 2009 (UTC)
-- Ryomaandres
--Sky Harbor (usapan) 16:29, 30 Setyembre 2009 (UTC)
