It might be useful to refer to a similar naming dispute where, with regard to the spelling of a country, it was argued:

Since there is no accepted Tagalog (or Filipino for that matter) equivalent of “Chile”, it might be good to retain its international spelling. “Tsile” is (in my opinion) is virtually unknown but “Chile” is.

In this case, it is not spelling that is the matter but translation.

I strongly believe that we must stick to a concrete name for this article and articles that will contain the full UN name. Over the course of the existence of the article for the UN, the article has gone through three names. The names are listed below:

  • First version: United Nations (original)
  • Second version: Mga Bansang Nagkakaisa (my revision)
  • Third version: Mga Nagkakaisang Bansa (revision by Tomas De Aquino)

Since there are three recognized Tagalog names for the UN (the two mentioned above plus Nagkakaisa mga Bansa), I believe that for the sake of consistency we must adopt only one name for the UN in Tagalog. Some pages still retain the English name and articles that contain the name in Tagalog remain inconsistent. An example is the UN page where the title and some of the text was changed to conform to the third version, but most of the text still stuck to the second version.

Discussion on consistency has been brought up on Talk:Pilipinas where consistency was asked for an entire article. If there are two recognized names, choose one and use it for the entire article. The other name can be used for other articles.

Although I am not supporting one name, including mine, for use in the article and in future articles, I do ask for consistency by adopting only one supported name for the UN in Tagalog.

Tandaan po lamang: No original research. --bluemask 07:38, 12 Marso 2007 (UTC)[sumagot]

:| --Sky Harbor (usapan) 09:41, 24 Hulyo 2012 (UTC)[sumagot]
