Ang Radio Philippines Network, Inc. ay isang kumpanya ng media na nakabase sa Filipino na pagmamay-ari ng Government Communications Group sa ilalim ng Presidential Communications Operations Office, ALC Group of Company, Far East Managers and Investors Inc., Empire Philippines Holdings Inc., at mga pribadong sektor. Ang mga dating studio ay matatagpuan sa Broadcast City, Capitol Hills, Diliman, Quezon City na may mga transmiter sa Panay Avenue, Quezon City.
Itinatag ni Roberto Benedicto at bago ang privatization, ito ang istasyon ng kapatid ng kasalukuyang gobyerno na pag-aari at kinokontrol na Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation.
Kasaysayan
[baguhin | baguhin ang wikitext]Bilang Kanlaon Broadcasting System (1960-1975)
[baguhin | baguhin ang wikitext]Ang RPN ay itinatag at nagbibigay ng unang broadcast franchise noong 29 Hunyo 1960 bilang Kanlaon Broadcasting System (KBS). Ang Kanlaon ay isang bulkan sa isla ng Pilipinas ng Negros, ang tahanan ng Benedicto. Kapag ipinagkaloob, ang KBS ay unang naging isang radio network sa kauna-unahan nitong istasyon ng radyo sa Maynila, DZBI. Noong 1967, ang KBS ay naging isang buong network, na mayroong pitong istasyon ng radyo sa buong bansa na sina DZRR at DZAX sa Maynila, DZAH at DZBS sa Baguio, DZTG sa Tuguegarao, DZRL sa Laoag, DXDX sa Dadiangas, at DWEW sa Legazpi.
Noong 1969, bumaling ang telebisyon sa telebisyon bilang KBS Television ay inilunsad kasama ang KBS-9 Manila at KBS-12 Baguio bilang mga unang istasyon. Ang tulong at pondo para sa bagong TV network na bahagyang nagmula sa ABS-CBN sa anyo ng dating punong tanggapan nito kasama ang Roxas Boulevard at kagamitan mula sa Toshiba na nagpapahintulot sa kanila na mag-broadcast ng kulay. Dahil dito, sa paglulunsad nito ay pinangalanang Accucolor 9 ("Accucolor" ang pangalan ng kulay na teknolohiya na ginamit) bilang kauna-unahang network sa telebisyon ng Pilipinas na naglunsad nang buong kulay. Noong 1970, nakakuha rin ang KBS ng isang Handa na Kulay na Labas ng Broadcast Van para sa mga malalayong broadcast ng mga pangunahing kaganapan sa balita at mga pabalat sa palakasan.
